Odumakin, genuine, patriotic Nigerian, says Hamzat

Dr Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos Deputy Governor, consoling Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, wife of the late Afenifere Spokesperson, when he led the state government officials on a condolence visit to the family on Tuesday in Lagos.
Dr Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos State Deputy Governor, on Tuesday described the late Afenifere spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, as “a genuine and patriotic Nigerian’’.
Hamzat, who led the state government delegation to the family of the deceased in Lagos, was received by the widow, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin.
The deputy governor expressed shock and sadness over the demise of the Afenifere’s spokesman, saying that the late activist would be greatly missed.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the late Odumakin, 54, died on Friday after battling with respiratory problems occasioned by COVID-19 complications.
According to Hamzat, this is a shocking death, l hope his memory will be kept alive.
Hamzat said that the demise of Odumakin was more painful and a big loss, bearing in mind that the deceased still has aged parents.
He, however, admonished the family to take solace in the fact that while the deceased was alive, he fought for the masses and contributed immensely to the betterment and development of the nation.
The deputy governor then prayed that God would give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Hamzat, however, implored Nigerians to continue to adhere strictly to all the safety rules of COVID-19 protocols, noting that the disease was real.
He said that the state government would not rest on its oars to ensure that the pandemic was contained in Nigeria and Lagos State in particular.
NAN reports that the deputy governor was accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Tayo Ayinde.
