Gov. Udom Diversifying A’Ibom Economy through Coconut Farming

By Trek Africa Newspaper

This is the first time a state government has dedicated serious resources (time, money, intellectual and physical strength) in diversifying her state economy particularly through planting of coconuts in great magnitude.

Today the State Information Management Team visited the 11-thousand-hectare St Gabriel coconut plantation farm located at Eastern Obolo/Mkpat Enin

With the rapid growth of over thousands of coconut trees, in no distant time, Akwa Ibomites will no longer travel to other states to purchase coconut oil rather we’ll be major exporters of coconuts and its products across the country. These coconut products ranges from oil, cream, butter, milk to smoothies. Even the coconut shells for different crafts.

It could be recalled that in February, the Ministry of Agriculture came in and took the sample of the soil for test and fertiliser that matches the soil was blended and applied, and that is what led to the rapid growth of the coconut.
