Postponement of 26th Anniversary of Epetedo Self – declaration by the Late President MKO Abiola

By Trek Africa Newspaper

Winner of the 1993 Presidential Election, Chief MKO Abiola

In tune with the preventive measures to curb the spread of corona virus disease, being put in place by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Lagos State Government, the above named event which is slated to hold on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at old Epetedo Hall or Eleganza Sports Centre, which is now Nigeria’s Democracy Centre, by 11am prompt, has been postponed indefinitely by us, the Organiser, Coalition for A Better Nigeria.

All the prepared papers on the proposed lecture “Remembering 1993 And Thinking 2023” are still relevant and we therefore urge our prospective Participants across the States of the Federation to please take note.

We hereby regret any inconvenience this might have caused

We appreciate the overwhelming support from every quarter as we have been inundated with calls, text messages, WhatsApp posts and official letters confirming the attendance of our invited Guests

We dedicate this historic press statement to all the Victims of June 12 democratic struggles, most especially the Late President MKO Abiola families and the most Vulnerable Victims that have been living in pains and suffering from various forms of health challenge and empowerment Problem

The priority list includes Comrade Abiodun Mustapha (a.k.a June 12, the intense June 12 protests claimed his one leg), Comrade Akin Orisagbemi (P.A to the Late Chief (Mrs) Kudirat MKO Abiola and the Survivor of 16 gun shots but still unlucky, health wise), Comrade Richard Ogunderu (the youngest Comrade of the 4 – member MAVD and a 19 year old Spokesman of the Movement for the Advancement of Democracy (MAVD) led by Comrade Kabir Adenuga that hijacked a Nigerian Plane and diverted it to the Republic of Niger during the June 12 protests), Comrade Toyin Okanlawon (Former Secretary General, Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union Government, who lost one of his leg to a gun shot from a Mobile Policeman) and Comrade Abayomi Igbekoyi (Another former Obafemi Awolowo University Student living with an amputated leg due to a Mobile Policeman gun shot)

We wish both the Federal and State Governments could urgently intervene in their case so as to permanently erase the 27 year old thinking of being neglected by the Beneficiaries of Democracy whose actualisation struggles almost consumed their lives

We appreciate the past contributions of the National Leader of All Progressives’ Congress and the Honourable Minister of Interior, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola respectively, in this regard, but it is not over until it is finally over.

Aluta Continua, ….

Comrade Awa Bamiji
National Coordinator
