MRS. ABDULRAZAQ EXHIBITS KWARA’S INGENIOUS AND PRODIGIOUS FASHION ECONOMY AT AFRICAN FASHION WEEK LAGOS

The efforts of Her Excellency, Mrs. Olufolake M. AbdulRazaq, the wife of Kwara State Governor, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was again headlined at the recently concluded African Fashion Week Nigeria 2019 which held in Lagos.
Being a matron of the African Fashion Week London, the precursor of African Fashion Week Nigeria, Mrs. AbdulRazaq ceased the opportunity to showcase the creative works of indigenous fashion entrepreneurs who live and work in Kwara state to the international community. Consisting eight designers on the runway and two exhibitors, it was perfect time for Kwara state to showcase the best of Aso Oke, Aso Ofi and Adire produced in the ‘state of harmony’.
It was not just about the fanfare and pageantry of fashion, the high-flying First Lady of Kwara state also availed herself the opportunity to project her various social change and advocacy projects which include stemming gender based violence and Child Abuse; and stepping up awareness for the eradication of drug abuse and modern day slavery. Trek Africa Newspaper can disclose that while the First Lady addressed the audience at the event, young models carried placards behind her to display the giant efforts at curbing the social anomalies that is decimating Nigerian youths rapidly.
The First Lady of Kwara state is also involved in bringing lifeline for the less-privileged in Kwara state with her humanitarian initiatives under the flagship Ajike People’s Support Centre. Flagged off barely six months ago, the Centre is set out to ‘impact positively on the lives of children, women and youths in Kwara state through intervention on education, health and economic empowerment’. It will create economic empowerment for people through vocational skills acquisition, encourage education advancement for the girl child and indeed the youths through scholarship awards and ensure the health and wellbeing of the people through health interventions that would be wholesome. The initiatives of the center is not limited to the state capital, rather it cuts across all the sixteen local government of the state.

Her multifarious positive activities directly consolidate the governance strides of her husband, the Governor of Kwara State, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who has graciously placed his confidence on the ability of women to deliver social and economic benefits to the teeming populace of Kwara state. It will be recalled that the Governor made waves as the first Nigerian governor to appoint nine women out of a 16-member cabinet dusting the average 35% affirmative action as set by the United Nations.
His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II and the Grand Patron of African Fashion Week commended the innovation and cultural influence of Mrs. Olufolake Abdulrazaq while urging her to redouble her efrorts. Thereafter, the first class monarch presented an Award of Excellence to Mrs. Olufolake AbdulRazaq for her leading role as the Matron of the African Fashion Week Nigeria; for the unique Kwara collections, and her unflinching support for the brand since 2016. Also awarded by the Ooni of Ife at the event was the First Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi.
Also present at the event to support the First Lady were four commissioners from Kwara state. They include Honourable Commissioner for Enterprise, Agbaje Wahab Femi; Honourable Commissioner for Social Development, Aremu Abosede Deborah; Honourable Commissioner for Communications, Murtala Olanrewaju; and Honourable Commissioner for water resources, Hajiya Fatimah Lawal.
