Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has cautioned the Federal Government against undermining democratic institutions or using state institutions to suppress opposition political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Makinde reportedly stressed the importance of protecting democratic principles, maintaining institutional independence and ensuring a level playing field for all political parties.

His comments come amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has generated concerns about the state of opposition politics and Nigeria’s democratic process.

The governor’s warning has further drawn attention to the need for political tolerance, respect for the rule of law and the protection of opposition voices as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
