Lola Akande, a former Lagos commissioner for women affairs and poverty alleviation, has formally commenced her diplomatic assignment as Nigeria’s ambassador to Denmark.
Akande presented her letter of credence to Frederik André Henrik Christian, king of Denmark, on Thursday at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.
Akande commended the Danish king for his “sustained advocacy” for global sustainability and climate action, noting that environmental protection, peace and security, and sustainable development are key areas through which relations between Nigeria and Denmark could be further enhanced.
She expressed Nigeria’s willingness to engage more closely with the Danish government, business community, and other relevant stakeholders to expand cooperation between the two countries.
The former commissioner was appointed as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden in March with accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway.
Akande formally assumed her diplomatic responsibilities in Sweden on September 16 after presenting her letter of credence to King Carl XVI Gustaf.
