While public attention often focuses on security outcomes, the sacrifices made by officers and men who serve on the frontline, and those who ultimately pay the supreme price, deserve equal recognition and remembrance. It was in acknowledgement of this enduring sacrifice that a solemn moment of reflection and gratitude was observed on the opening ceremony of the June edition of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) Statewide Inter-Agency Training for Security Operatives in Lagos on Wednesday 17th June 2026.
During the training, security chiefs, participants and other stakeholders paused to honour the memory of the late Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of Finance and Administration, Lagos State Command, DCP l Khan Salihu, as well as other fallen heroes who dedicated their lives to the service of the nation. The tribute was led by the Director of Administration of the LSSTF, Mr. Adegbola Lewis, who represented the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Fund, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, at the opening ceremony of the fourth edition of the inter-agency training programme.

Addressing participants, Lewis noted that the late DCP Khan would ordinarily have been among the senior officers participating in the June training session. “At this point, we need to recognise something that happened recently and pay our respects. I am sure you are all aware that we lost on Monday the DC Admin of the Lagos State Police Command in the person of DCP Khan Salihu,” he said.
Reflecting on the significance of the moment, he added: “Interestingly, he would have been here with us today to attend the June training. In the spirit of that togetherness, we should all stand up and observe a one-minute silence in recognition of his service.”

The entire hall immediately rose to its feet in solemn silence. Among those who joined in the standing tribute were retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police and LSSTF Board Member, DIG Agboola Oshodi-Glover; Comptroller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Lagos State Command, George Daramola; representatives of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command led by ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem; Lagos State Commander of Nigeria Man O’ War, MC Ayodele Ajayi; Lagos State Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Sesan Oguntunde; General Manager of Globus Training and Advisory Limited, Desmond Nnebue; Executive Assistant, LSSTF, Mrs. Adaobi Nwankwo; facilitators, senior security officers, and participants drawn from various security agencies across Lagos State.
The tribute served as a poignant reminder that behind every uniform is a life committed to public service and that the safety enjoyed by citizens often comes at great personal cost to security personnel.

As the gathering resumed after the minute of silence, participants carried forward not only the lessons of the training programme but also a renewed appreciation for the sacrifices of DCP Khan Salihu and countless other fallen heroes whose service continues to inspire those who remain on the frontlines.
