Insecurity Is Unacceptable, We Will Defeat Terrorism – President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu on Monday assured Nigerians that his administration will defeat terrorism and banditry, describing the security challenges confronting the country as “unacceptable” and completely alien to Nigeria’s values and culture.

He said tackling insecurity remains a top priority of his government, noting that peace and stability are essential for economic growth and national development.
“I promise you here that I will play my part. Seven zones of mechanisation are coming, and I assure Nigerians that this will be delivered. We are also working tirelessly to strengthen our security forces and defeat terrorism,” Tinubu said.
He admitted that the security situation has been a major concern for leaders across the country, but expressed confidence that Nigeria would prevail through determination and resilience.
“This is what has kept all of us sleepless at night, but I assure you that we will win. Terrorism and banditry are unacceptable. They are not part of our culture and are foreign to us,” the President state.
insecurity as a major obstacle to economic progress and called for collective efforts by all stakeholders to find lasting solutions. He specifically commended the governors of Borno, Katsina and Kaduna states, alongside others, for their efforts in safeguarding lives and property.
Welcoming governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, development partners and private sector leaders to the two-day conference, themed “Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable National Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026–2030,” the President said the gathering reflected a shared commitment to national progress.
He praised the National Economic Council, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, for providing a strong platform for policy coordination and strategic engagement among the tiers of government.
Tinubu also highlighted the achievements of his administration so far, saying ongoing economic reforms have helped stabilise the economy and restore confidence locally and internationally.
According to him, recent monetary policy reforms have yielded positive results, a development he said has earned global recognition. He also commended the Central Bank of Nigeria, under Governor Yemi Cardoso, for restoring confidence in the country’s monetary framework.
The President noted that state and local governments now receive increased and more predictable federal allocations, enabling them to pay salaries promptly, invest in infrastructure and deliver social services.
He added that his administration has prioritised infrastructure development across transportation, power, digital connectivity, housing and irrigation, alongside expanded social investment programmes targeting vulnerable households, youth, women and small businesses.
Tinubu explained that the Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026–2030 represents the next phase of Nigeria’s development journey, with a strong focus on inclusive, resilient and environmentally sustainable growth.
The plan, he said, prioritises economic diversification, human capital development, subnational competitiveness, private sector-led growth and climate resilience, stressing that its success will largely depend on effective implementation at the state and local government levels.
