The Psychiatric Hospital and Elderly People’s Home built in Aguleri, Anambra State, by the Founder of Seraphic Homes Foundation (SHF), Evangelist Chukwuebuka Anozie Obi, has officially commenced operations.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Saturday, Evangelist Ebuka Obi, who also serves as the Spiritual Director of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, revealed that two mentally challenged individuals—a man and a woman—had already been rescued from the streets of Anambra State and admitted into the facility. The man was picked up in Nteje community, while the woman was found roaming the Onitsha Main Market.
“The two were immediately assessed by psychiatric doctors and other health professionals, who commenced treatment right away. They are now being provided with comprehensive care at no cost,” Obi stated. He added that the foundation’s rescue team will be bringing more mentally challenged individuals to the hospital in the coming days.
The psychiatric hospital, built in Aguleri at a cost of over N1.6 billion, was commissioned on September 19 by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo. The facility is designed to offer completely free psychiatric care, encompassing diagnosis, treatment, medication, rehabilitation, accommodation, and welfare support.
Obi emphasized that the foundation is committed to “creating a society where the mentally challenged are no longer abandoned on the streets, but embraced, treated, rehabilitated, and empowered to live meaningful lives after reintegration.”
In April, Seraphic Homes Foundation also opened the first-ever Old People’s Home and Orphanage in Mgbirichi, Imo State, commissioned by Governor Hope Uzodimma. The state-of-the-art centre currently provides shelter, food, clothing, healthcare, and education for orphans and elderly individuals without family support.
Obi explained that the foundation was established to touch lives and promote the welfare of the vulnerable, a passion he has carried since childhood. Its mission includes providing financial support, educational opportunities, scholarships up to university level, and funding for patients unable to afford life-saving treatments or hospital bills.
He further called for collective action in building a better society, urging individuals, businesses, and organizations to support the foundation’s initiatives through donations, volunteering, or advocacy.
Obi also revealed plans to replicate these humanitarian projects in every state of the federation, declaring: “To serve humanity with all I have is my calling, and this is what I will do for the rest of my life.”
